The script came pretty quick. I don't know that I fully explained all that goes into a Fairtrade product, but it did rhyme. I started out roughing a cut together using images from the web to support the script. Then I showed Adam. The way he drew it - with the pen never leaving the paper - inspired the cut into something better. It gave me the end tag - It's All Connected. And then by adding the blue lines and pushing the images around the screen - it made it come alive.

'A sip of inspiration' was the brief we had to adhere to. I had a thought of how interesting it would be to take the most uninspiring character I could come up with and turn his usually boring life around after being exposed to Lipton Tea. The idea for Sleepy Sam was then created; casting was one of the most important factors. Finding a person to play the role of Sam and his awkwardly cute but tired dog. I was fortunate to find both through friends. My wife Suzie and I then spent much time and the thrift store finding clothing and props to complete the piece.

The sand, surf, and sky of a Great Lakes shoreline are reconstructed as a pattern of concentric circles. With the sky at its center and the beach at its edge, the surf becomes a rhythmic series of expanding rings. Ambient sounds of the lakeshore are accompanied by synesthetic flashes of color as the form slowly expands, evolves, and transforms.

I played in a touring band for five years, but just recently removed myself from the lineup so I could move back to Chicago and immerse myself once again in the world of post-production. This is a short piece showing the band's most recent time in the recording studio with the new member, and their thoughts about the next chapter in their story.

Second Tuesday Show-n-Tell
You don't want to work day, night and weekends and have it just be your little secret. Many of the people who work at Cutters, Sol, Another Country, and Dictionary Films also work on their own personal projects, and sometimes these projects get lost in the shuffle. The STS&T brings them to the top of the deck. Feel free to join us the second Tuesday of each month to view our current work, or periodically check back to see updates.
